About Me
My name is Andrew T Bockus (a.k.a. Andy). I'm a father, husband, professional medicinal chemist, as well as an amateur endurance runner, musician, and writer ...and I'm very very tired. I believe that our most valuable asset is time, so I do my best to focus what little time I have on tackling challenges in human health and wellness, creative self-expression, and quality time with family.
Education
2015-2016
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Trinity University
Under the mentorship of Adam R. Urbach, I worked on a variety of projects that employed cucurbiturils as synthetic receptors for peptides and proteins. I also had the opportunity to teach and mentor undergraduate chemists in both formal and informal settings.
2009-2015
Ph.D., Chemical Biology
University of California Santa Cruz
Under the mentorship of Scott Lokey, I investigated the structure-permeability relationships of natural product-inspired cyclic peptides.
2004-2008
B.A., Biochemistry
Skidmore College
I graduated magna cum laude and received the Charlotte W. Fehey Prize for Outstanding Chemistry Student in 2008. Under the tutaledge of Michelle W. Frey, I conducted a research project involving the expression, purification, and characterization of a surface-associated aminopeptidase from Vibro fischeri.
